Big Brother Second Chance – The Ladies (Part 3)

With less than a month to go before the premiere of Big Brother 18, rumors are beginning to circulate about who will be moving into the Big Brother house this summer. Will it be all returnees? All Newbies? Or some sort of combination of the two?

My guess, we will have two more seasons of newbies, which will set us up for the most epic season of Big Brother ever; Big Brother 20:Winners. By season 20, we should have enough interesting winning houseguests to create a dream cast that will pit all (or most, sorry Adam) of the winners against each other, to see who will reign supreme as the Greatest Big Brother Player of All Time.

Another possible, and maybe more realistic option, season 18 will be Big Brother: Second Chances. This will give the producers one more chance to have their favorite houseguests (that have never won the game) be a part of their epic 20th season of winners.

One issue that casting has been running into with All Stars, is the common availability times of their “must-return winners.” No Big Brother: All-Stars would be complete without Dan, Derrick, Jun, Dr. Will, Evel Dick, Hayden M, Rachel, etc.

So, if the producers give them all two years notice, and inform them that Big Brother 20 will be a winners season, with a $1 million prize, their golden children will have an ample amount of time to clear their schedules for the summer of 2018.

That leaves us with the question of who will get their second chance to become a Big Brother champion? The following, are the 18 guys, ranked in order of least to most deserving to get their second chance.

* Sticking to the rules put in place by Survivor: Second Chancesthe houseguests that have played the game ONLY once, and never won, will be invited to be a part of the Big Brother: Second Chance cast.

6. Elissa, BB15

There are a few reasons why Elissa had such a huge target on her back in season 15, but none more so than she is the sister of Big Brother 13 winner, Rachel Reilly. If Elissa was in a season in which ALL of her fellow houseguests were “known”, such as a Second Chance season, than the spotlight of her having an “unfair advantage” would be off of her.

She is currently pregnant, and therefore will not be on BB this summer. But, Elissa certainly deserves that chance in the future, and have an opportunity to start the game off on a much more even playing field.

5. Shelli, BB17

While Shelli ended up being the first member of the jury and finished the game in 11th place, she completely dominated the first few weeks of the game. Shelli’s biggest downfall was that she became a power couple with Clay, and as a result, became the biggest target in the house.

If Shelli had the opportunity to play again, and refrained from getting involved in a showmance, Shelli would be a force to be reckoned with in a Second Chance season. She is strong mentally and physically, and has the ability to strategize with the best of them.

4. Amy, BB3

After 17 seasons, Big Brother 3‘s Amy Crews is still one of a kind. Her southern charm, sense of humor, and contagious laugh made her a fan favorite back in 2002.

Amy was the first houseguest to ever be a replacement nominee, and the first houseguest to ever re-enter the game, as she was voted out 3rd and returned to ultimately finish in 4th place.

Due to her popularity in season 3, Amy was offered a spot in the first All Star season back in 2006, but had to decline the offer due to her wedding being the same summer. Watching a now 37 year old Amy play modern day Big Brother 13 years later would be surreal for any diehard BB fan, and would be almost too good to be true.

3. Michelle, BB10

As far as underrated BB players go, Michelle Costa, the Portuguese Princess from Providence, has got to be at the top of any true BB fan’s list. The cast of Big Brother 10 was filled to the brim with big, dynamic personalities, and Michelle is no exception.

When the rest of the girls were at each others throats most of the season, Michelle was forming tight bonds with her houseguests. Sure, we saw her close friendship with body builder, Jessie, but it’s what we didn’t see that made Michelle so good at the game. None of her fellow houseguests had anything bad to say about her, and she was never a target until she was nominated as a replacement nominee in the final 7. Besides Ollie (who was evicted on the same night) she was the last houseguest to be nominated.

Unlike many houseguest that are not nominated until late in the game, Michelle was not a wallflower. She had a dominant personality, never shied away from confrontation, and was one of the strongest physical female competitors the show has ever had. The epic endurance challenge in which her and April were hanging on the side of a building in the “Livin’ on the Edge” HoH competition was one of the greatest challenge moments in BB history.

Michelle is a true BB fan, and will take full advantage of her Second Chance opportunity. She is entertaining, full of emotion, and ultra competitive, which is everything one could ask for in a Big Brother houseguest.

2. Amanda, BB15

Amanda is one of the greatest Big Brother villains of all time, and no Second Chance season would be complete without her. In Big Brother, it is just as much fun to root AGAINST a houseguest that you dislike, than it is to root FOR a contestant you love. Amanda will not be in the middle of the road for any BB fan. You love her or you hate her. You want her to win, or you want her evicted week 1. That is a producers dream contestant, and an invaluable part of any season of any show.

Watching Amanda’s disastrous fall from power in BB15 was thrilling, and I am confident that no matter how hard she tries to contain her emotions, she will be unable to and we will get Amanda BB15 all over again. She may dominate for a few weeks, but once she loses her temper, she will be dead in the water. And I can’t wait.

1. Vanessa, BB17

Arguably the best contestant to never win the game, Vanessa’s return to BB is inevitable. The only question is when will be the best time for her to return. If Season 18 is indeed Second Chance, Vanessa will be on, and unfortunately she will likely be targeted from the get-go and evicted within the first few weeks.

But, if Vanessa comes back a few years from now, the target may not be so huge on her back, and she may have more of a fighting chance to take home the grand prize. Unfortunately for Vanessa, now that all of her fellow houseguests know she is a poker player, and has a substantial amount of money, it will be harder for her to win Big Brother than any former houseguest. But, if anyone can pull off a mastermind underdog story, my money is on Vanessa.

Big Brother 18: Second Chance – The Ladies (Part 2)

12. Renny, BB10

Being the oldest female to ever play the game did not stop Renny from becoming a fan favorite. Renny was nominated week 1 because of her argument with body builder Jessie. Once she survived, however, she became more likable, more entertaining, and a much better player.

Renny voted with the majority of the house right up until she was evicted in fifth place. She played a great game in terms of strategy, and her age was not a hinderance in forming tight alliances and bonds with houseguests nearly half her age.

Renny was a firecracker in every sense of the word, and her season-long bickering with 75 year old Jerry, made for some of the funniest fights in the history of the show.

One of Renny’s greatest fights in the BB house. All cumulating at 2:26 when she screams “YOU BETTER NOT!” at Libra. I could watch Renny all day and all night long.

The Renny and Dan time zone debate. One of the most amazing clips in reality TV history.

11. Helen, BB15

Helen gained a lot of fans on season 15, simply by not being an awful person that makes racist comments like the majority of her fellow houseguests. Helen was one of America’s only realistic options for a happy outcome with season 15, and once she was evicted, most viewers gave up all hope of having a satisfying, likable winner.

That being said, Helen played the game hard, and was a super fan of the show. She wanted to win, and was willing to do anything in order to get it. She was not scared to go after the power players, and make big moves to advance herself further in the game. Her alliance with Elissa proved that she had the ability to be extremely loyal, which is rare, but incredibly important in the BB house.

10. Jen, BB8

Jen Johnson is entertainment gold. Not only did she walk around wearing ridiculous homemade tank tops that said “JENSA MEMBER”, and “JENIUS”, but she also had arguably the greatest meltdown in the history of BB. Not because she was on the block, her friend got evicted, or she was fighting with someone, but because she hated the picture of her that was on the memory wall.

Jen was so oblivious to everything that was going on around her that it is impossible to take your eyes off her. She had absolutely no game or strategy (besides of course, having the foresight to go after Dick and Daniele in week 2), but somehow made it to the final 8.

During an extra special, and even more bizarre Jameka-God meltdown than usual, Jen demonstrates just how oblivious she is, as she requests a white belt for her new bunny costume because the black belt provided with the costume doesn’t match. You can’t write this stuff, and that is why we desperately need more Jen Johnson on Big Brother.

9. Keesha, BB10

If there is one thing Keesha did not do in season 10, it was fly under the radar. She had huge brawls (particularly with April), and formed extremely tight bonds (Steven, Renny, Memphis.)  Keesha was voted fan favorite and won the 25k at the end of the game, but it would be interesting to see if she would be as loved by America if she returned to play again. Drama surrounded Keesha everywhere she went, and she was constantly in the middle of the action. It is likely Keesha won the 25k as more of a reward for being an underdog that almost made the finals, rather than “America’s Sweetheart”, which CBS attempted to portray her as. Due to season 10’s HUGE female personalities, Keesha came across as the sweetheart. If she were on again, however, I think America would be shocked by how cutthroat and devious she could be.

If she were on an All-Star or Second Chance season, it would probably be difficult for Keesha to stay under the radar and drama free. But, it would sure be fun to watch her try.

8. Nicole, BB16

Nicole was a competitor in season 16. She was a good strategist and the only houseguests that was not in the “Bomb Squad” alliance to win HoH the entire season. The truth is, the “Bomb Squad”, and later “The Detonators”, were so strong that nobody had a chance against them.

Nicole did everything she could to take down the guys alliance, but unfortunately for her, the girls of BB16 were DOA. It would be interesting to see what she could do on a more level playing field in a Big Brother: Second Chance season.

7. Audrey, BB17

Despite the fact that she was absolutely horrendous at the game, Audrey is a must-returnee. She couldn’t keep her mouth closed, made more alliances than she knew what to do with, and had a meltdown that made the Big Brother gods giddy with joy.

Audrey may be one of the worst BB players of all time, but when it comes to entertainment, she is a legend. While her blatant disrespect of the rules of the game were pretty annoying, (she disregarded her food and hot water restrictions, locked herself in the Diary Room for hours on end, and didn’t even attend the Power of Veto ceremony that put her on the block), you can’t help but want to see her play again.

Of course, the odds of her ever coming back and WINNING Big Brother is astronomically low. But if Rachel Reilly can do it, I suppose anyone can.

Top 18 ladies that deserve a second chance at playing Big Brother…

18. Aaryn, BB15

Granted, she brought it all on herself, but Aaryn had one of the worst experiences imaginable on Big Brother. Her racist and homophobic remarks got her fired from her modeling jobs, and made her one of the most hated people in the country. To top it all off,  she was utterly confused as to why she was so hated.

Because she was so controversial, Aaryn became one of the most well known contestants in the show’s history, as her remarks in the house became National headlines. Still, Aaryn’s return to the BB house would be shocking, and quite a gutsy move by CBS.

But, as difficult as it may be, try and separate Aaryn from the racist comments she made, and acknowledge her incredible ability to win challenges. In just 9 weeks she won 4 HoH’s and 1 POV, making her one of the top challenges performers in BB history.

Hopefully now that Aaryn is in her mid twenties, she has learned to be more accepting of others, and finally understands why her comments were so hurtful and controversial. If any houseguest in BB history can redeem themselves from being on a Second Chance season, it’s Aaryn.*

*Fear not, America, Aaryn is like 13 months pregnant (or so it seems) and will not be in the BB house this summer. Unless, of course, she takes her newborn with her.

17. Amber, BB16

Amber got completely screwed in BB16 because of the massive guy alliance and the fact that Caleb was obsessed with her. There is almost no way Amber would return to the BB house and not form an all-girl alliance. Her biggest mistake was not listening to Joey in week 1 and getting all the girls together to take on the guys. On that same note, Joey would also be a viable returnee, but Amber would likely be able to get much farther in the game than Joey. Amber is extremely likable, easy to root for, a decent competitor, and has the potential to be a great strategic player.

My prediction: If Amber gets an opportunity to play BB again, she wins. And gets revenge for all the ladies of the BB 16 house.

16. Monica, BB2

Way before Derrick and Frankie got the tragic news about their grandfather’s passing in BB16, Monica Bailey had the misfortune of finding out that her cousin had been a victim of the 9/11 attacks, and was missing. No houseguest since has had to deal with such tragedy while living in the house. Not only did Monica choose to stay in the house (granted she was in the final 3 at the time), but she showed the strength and perseverance of a powerful woman and fierce competitor.

While Monica was not afraid to speak her mind, or stand up to confrontation, she was still extremely likable and very easy to root for. Monica was a candidate for Big Brother: All Stars, but didn’t make the final cut. 15 years after her first appearance, Monica could have what it takes to have learned from her first experience, and solidify herself as a huge threat in Big Brother: Second Chance.

15. Danielle, BB14

Danielle played a strong game in Big Brother 14, but ended it by making one of the worst moves in BB history. In the final 4, she needlessly chose to use the veto on Dan, but made him promise he would evict Ian over Shane; essentially ensuring herself a spot in the final 2.

When Dan evicted Shane instead of Ian, Danielle was blindsided and realized that she had been played by Dan. If Danielle plays again, she will be less likely to put all her trust in someone, and in turn, play a more cutthroat game. Couple that with being quite decent at competitions (she was the only female HoH during the entire season, and won it twice) and being mentored by potentially the best to ever play the game, Danielle will be a force to be reckoned with if she gets her second chance.

14. Kalia, BB13

Kalia was one of the only rookie houseguests from season 13 that had any sense of urgency in the game, and the intelligence and foresight to be a serious contender. Unfortunately for Kalia, that made her a much bigger target than the other newbie houseguests that season. When she was nominated in the final 5 against eventual runner-up Porsche, Kalia was the only logical option for eviction.

If Kalia had the opportunity to play in a house full of equally decent competitors, she probably would not be such a target, and may be able to stay under the radar for longer than she was able to in season 13.

13. Natalie, BB9

Natalie’s eviction in the final 5 of season 9 was one of the most heart-wrenching evictions in the history of Big Brother. She genuinely was devastated about her “friends” blindsiding her, and like her or not, it was impossible to not feel awful for her.

Despite the fact that she often annoyed many of her houseguests, Natalie was certainly the kindest houseguest in season 9, and even could be considered to be one of the kindest houseguest of all time.

Now 36, Natalie would hopefully be less naive and play the game assuming she was going to be blindsided each week. That may be the only thing she would need to make it to the very end of the game, and win over the jury with her sincerity and genuineness.
